The Game

The Feeding the Future Robotics Challenge is played on a 7 m by 7 m elevated platform. Six teams compete with their ROBOTS on the PLAYING FIELD during the 2 minutes and 30 seconds (2:30) of play, with each MATCH featuring a different randomized combination of teams. 

The objective of the Feeding the Future Robotics Challenge is for two REGIONAL ALLIANCES, each composed of three teams, to CONSERVE WATER and ENERGY and PRODUCE FOOD. The REGIONAL ALLIANCES then combine into a single GLOBAL ALLIANCE to SECURE FOOD and BALANCE global resources. GLOBAL ALLIANCES that achieve a BALANCE with five or more ROBOTS shall receive additional points, known as a COOPERTITION® BONUS

Tournament
Structure

The 2024 FIRST Global Challenge has a tournament format with Ranking Matches, Playoff Matches, and Final Matches.

  • Ranking Matches: Teams compete to earn points for their ranking, excluding their lowest score. Red cards result in zero points.

  • Playoff Matches: Determine which teams move on to the Final Matches.

  • Final Matches: Decide the FIRST Global Winning Alliance.

  • Tournament Alliances: Eight Alliances with four teams each are formed based on rankings and a random draw.

  • Playoff Matches consist of 16 matches, similar to Ranking Matches.

  • The top three Alliances from Playoff Matches advance to the Final Matches.

  • The top-ranked Alliance in the Final Matches becomes the FIRST Global Winning Alliance.
